Kara LuLu is now 4

My little LuLu is now the big age of 4!! All Kara wanted to do on her birthday was to have "BBQ chicken and a cake like the one that Bruce eats on Matilda, you know the one the Trunchbull makes him eat"(Chocolate Cake) she told me that morning! So all day when family would call her and wish her a Happy Birthday her would she she was still 3 because she hadn't had cake yet! That just reminded me of something she said this summer. She was sad that Oakley and her friend were playing and she wasn't big enough to do what they were, she came to me crying and told me to just go make her a cake so so could be big!! I wish that was the answer to not ageing then I would ban birthday cakes forever for me!!{[WINK]}Kara also had her day care Christmas party on her birthday, what more could a kid ask for then to see Santa on your birthday! As we were leaving the party, Kara kicked something on the sidewalk on the way out it was a jingle bell off of Santa's suit! Her face lit up and she turned to me and said Mom I just got my secret wish!! Then we had to make a mad dash back inside to tell everyone what she had found!! Then we had to call Dad, he didn't understand a word she said because she was so excited!! It defiantly was a birthday to remember!!
Kara LuLu,
I want you to how grateful we are to have you in our family!! I love all of the funny little things you say, and do! You are so special! I love how you get so excited to go help your dad at the dairy, so you can ware you poop boots! I love that you like to be home and no where else. I love that you miss Oakley when she is gone. I love how you try to wiggle you ears, but only your eyes blink and your nose gets all crinkled! But most of all I love you!!
Love MOM

Change is always Good!

Well I guess I can share this with everyone, Greg quit his job! I can't even tell you how excited I am!! I know you all are thinking that I must have lost my mind with the way the economy is and all. But yes, this is a great thing! Greg is a work-aholic! He was working for a man raising Holstein heifers for the local dairies around Delta, that is what he called his day job. Greg also does the AI work for a few dairies, runs our hauling business, and manages our Mama cows, to name a few of the side things that occupy his time. So when Greg said he wanted to cut something out, I was so happy and when he said it was his day job. I was bouncing off the walls with joy! Greg and I will have been married for 11 years tomorrow Greg has had to go to work on Christmas all but one of those, it was our first Christmas. We still lived in Draper at the time! So to have Greg home for all of Christmas morning, we wont know how to act!! So now Greg's main job is doing the AI work for the dairy, which will only take till early afternoon to do. Now he will have time for all of his other side job's and still be able to make it home for dinner!! With change always comes sacrifices, but what we have give up is very minimal to having my Greg around more!!

"Who Needs Snow"

So today was decorating day for the Festival of Trees! My Family and I have been working on our Tree for a few months now, so it was fun to see it all come together! This year Our theme was a beach or tropical kind of tree. You have to name your tree, so we gave our tree the name of "Who Needs Snow!" We have done this in the memory of my niece Ashley. She loved the summertime and always wished that she could go some place warm during the cold winter, I imagine the cold was hard on her but she never let you know how much it really bothered her! This was our second tree and we plan on doing it every year, we enjoy it so much and it helps ease the hurt and heartache a little, knowing that our time and effort is going to help children at Primary Children's Hospital, the same place that our Ashley spent weeks at a time, receiving great care and hope! Ashley My Angel
By Randie Smith

I have a guardian angel now,
She was sent to me from above.
With eyes so warm and caring,
They showed me of her Love.

Her laughter I will always hear,
The fun times we had I hold so dear.
We had a friendship that was so strong,
I know her love will go on and on.

A smile she would always wear,
Even when life, seemed to be unfair
She would always give me that sweet look,
And in no time she was off the hook.

Her heart was full of music,
A song I could always hear.
It told of her joy and love,
And so often she would share.

She has taught me of so many things
Like what it means to fight,
And live for everything.
I don’t know who I would be,
If my guardian angel, hadn’t been sent to me.

I read this at her funeral. We were more like sisters then anything else! I will miss her forever until that time comes when I get to hug her once more, till then all I have are fond memories that always bring a smile to my face and tears to my eyes! Love you Ash!

Puppies!!

We are now the proud parents to 10 puppies! Our dog Itch had thees puppies about 5 weeks ago and we just are able to find out how many there were! No we aren't the type that just didn't care! Oakley has been trying to figure out a way to get to them sense the day they were born! Itch had to find the best spot to have her puppies, I tell you what she did a dang good job of it. We have a large pile to pine poles for building fences up next to our barn, Itch crawled in between the poles and the barn half way in and dug a hole to have these pups! Oakley came up with a plan on how to get them out! She used our net that we used to scoop out bugs and muck from our swimming pool/water trough this summer to get those puppies out! I wasn't home when this took place but I'm sure it was a site, it might have looked like something form the movie 101 Dalmatians with Cruella De Ville after the puppies!! So if anyone is in need of a puppy just let me know! They would make great Christmas presents![{WINK!}]

Oh the good old days!

The weeks are just slipping past us! Thanksgiving is almost here and then on to Christmas! The year is almost over and there are things that I said I was going to do this year that I haven't got to just yet so I guess I better hop to it!

Do you remember when you were in Elementary and was so excited to play the recorder!! Well Oakley is now the that great stage in life! And all I have to say is how did our mothers do it!! I don't remember my mom telling me that it drove her crazy or that I couldn't practice it when she was around! I guess she was a lot nicer then I am! I have to admit that I did tell Oakley that the best time to practice was on Fridays! The reason behind it is that it is her early day from school. Greg is in charge of her on that day! So she practices while she waits for her Dad! But the sad thing is that Oakley knew exactly why I had said for her to practice on Fridays! Here is a picture of Oakley playing her recorder at our local grocery store!(that is another story!!) Ya got to love small town life?!?! {[WINK!]}

Oh the Life of a Farmer!

Just a random thought for you, from the middle of the night! After almost 11 years of being married to Farmer Greg, you would think when the phone rings in the middle of the night, I should assume the cows are out! But it's not!! My heart races and as I run to find the phone, only to hear another farmer or sometimes dispatch asking for Farmer Greg, always telling him the cows are out! Then Farmer Greg drags out of bed to go put them back in! I always stay up until he returns safely back home or until I get the phone call from Farmer Greg saying he needs my help!! We have spent a few nights putting cows away together either our own or from the feedlot. Each trip out has always been an adventure for the half asleep farmer and his wife! But you know what they say 1 night in the country is far better then a week in the city! I do have to agree!

This picture is of Farmer Greg sorting out some of our mama cows and calves. Sorry I haven't thought to take pictures during the middle of the night craziness! It is only 1:40 am!

I know I have lost it!

Today has been a day of Complete Chaos! You know one of those days that you just couldn't possibly fit in one more thing, but some how you figure out how to say yes to one more thing to be accomplished in that same day.... With my chaos all around me, I have taken multitasking to a new level! I can't believe that I even did it but I did! I made taco soup for my young women's activity at my shop today, while I was working. So in between clients I found myself stirring or dumping another can of this or that into it my good old crock pot, but that was after I had to barrow a can opener from the Diamond D Motor Lodge & Old Folks Home. (she said that was the strangest thing she has had anyone ask for, especially coming from the hair salon!) I just couldn't find the 20 minutes it takes to drive town and back before or after all of the different directions I had to go today. So desperate times call for desperate measures and this was mine!! I'm proud to say that my soup was a hit, and I know you all are thinking it, but no, no one found a hair in their soup!
*Taco Soup*
1 lb Hamburger
1 small Onion
1 package Taco Seasoning
1 package Ranch Mix
2 cans Diced Tomatoes
3 cans of any style of Beans(red, pinto, etc.)
2 cans of Green Chili's
1 can of Corn
1 can of Hominy (the only one that is drained!)
Great for days of Complete Chaos!

Halloween Fun!!

Once again Grandma Smith made my girls supper cute Halloween costumes! They both were "Puddle Skirt Girl's" is what Kara would tell you. I told someone that my girls were dressing up like the 50's she promptly came back with "No we are Puddle Skirt Girls!" We started are day with a fun breakfast with a group of my friends before the big costume parade at the school. Then I dropped Kara off at her daycare so she could attend her Halloween party with her friends. After school and daycare and work for me, we went over to our church and did the wonderful Trunk R Treat!! It is the best, especially were we live so far out! We never get any trick or treaties at our door! Here is a few pictures form our big candy gathering day!! Now the question is what do we do with it all!!

Oakley and her friends at school!
This is our Friend Casey and Broze. I had to have a picture of the Hot Cheerleader and the new DHS mascot!!Grandma gave them Hana Montana pens that sang! Thanks Grandma! Kara loves hers!!I usually have a better costume than this I just couldn't get into it this year!

Las Vegas Baby!!

Over the weekend my friends and I packed up and headed out!! We left the kids and the husbands home and we got the heck out of dodge! Our adventure started Sunday morning leaving Delta at 11:00 we stopped in Cedar City for a potty break and some lunch. While we were eating at Applebee's a man left us a note on our car stating how cute we all were and wanted to know if any of us were single! This made all of our day! It's always nice to know that someone else thinks you look good!! We hit Vegas around 5 o'clock! We went to the Tournament of Kings the fist night and little gambling but I wasn't so lucky so I quit pretty quickly!! It's not really that fun when your not winning! Our second day there was our big day! We went to MAMA MIA! It was amazing I highly recommend seeing it!! We all fell in love with the movie when it played in Delta(Yes we have a movie theater here!)When the play was over the night was still young so we found an awesome band playing the best 80's rock in the casino, we decide to sit and listen. Most of you know that I can't just sit and listen, so it wasn't to along (okay a half of a song)and we were all up and dancing!! We danced the night away literally we got back to our room around 4 in the morning! Boy am I feeling that, I haven't stayed up that late since I was dating Greg!! We have decided that it is now tradition that we are going to go every October!

I had to get a squished penny for my collection

We love to go to Gardner Village to the Witches Night Out! It is a ton of fun and there are a ton of crazy people who love it as much as us!! It has now become a tridition for the girls to go every year! This trip to witches marked our 4th year! We keep saying that we are going to get totally deck out in full witch gear but we have yet to accomplish it! But we have managed to all ware hats once! Oakley and I LOVE the carmel apples form Afton's Candy Shop they only sell them during the month of October so we load up and eat them for the rest of the week!

Oh LuLu

Here is another funny from the mouth of Kara that I have to share! To start out I need to tell you a little bit of history so you can get the humor of it all.... Kara has a rag quilt that my Mom and I made for her when she was tiny, well actually she has 3 (one is a travel size) she would stand at the washer and cry while it was in there. We quickly made her another one, now I can rotate the wash days, and have a clean one ready to go, with out putting the poor girl into complete hysterics! 1 of the 3 or sometimes all of varieties goes everywhere with her! Kara loves the fuzzy edges of her blankets, she will rub them on her lips and nose, as she moves her tongue in a sucking motion.(weird I know) She has worn all of the fuzz off around one blanket already so we sewed around and clipped the edges again so she would be back in business.....So now on to the funny part as I am snuggling with in her bed she asked me "Mom am I addicted" my reply was "What?" so she repeated her question " Mom am I addicted" so this time I responded with "to what?" and she came back with "To FUZZ!" I laughed and then told her yes you are ADDICTED TO FUZZ!Where the addiction all began!

I Have An Announcement!

I'm excited to announce that I gave my baby calves their very last bottle....
OH HAPPY DAY!!!

Oakley Is 9!!

10 '08
Oakley, I can't believe that you are nine!! Wow how much you have grown! You started out life only 6lbs. 5oz. and only 19 inches long! Now look at you! You are so beautiful! I would like to tell you one of my many favorite Oakley moments from the past years! You were the best baby never! You loved to be out in the barn yard with your Dad, I will always remember the time when you were 2 and we just bought some baby calves that had been raised on bottles. Your Dad and I unloaded them into the pen at our old Hinckley house. You were right there behind us the whole time, in your little Levi jacket, mimicking your Dads every move, never once afraid of the cows and calves, after we were done you walked into the pen and stuck out your tinny little hand to the calve and it latched on and begun to suck! I thought you would have been frighted by it but Oh no way!! When the calve stopped and let go of your hand, you chased it around the pen wanting it to do it again! I knew from that moment on that you were going to be our little Cow Girl! Shortly after this you started your famous phrase, when you were asked what you wanted to eat, the answer always was "Poop and Hay!" and it hasn't ever left! Oakley you are such a joy to have in our family. I don't know what I would do with out you! You are such a big help to your Dad and I! I love you so much, and want you to know how proud I am of you!
Love, MOM

Greg had a Birthday!!

Yesterday was Greg's Birthday, I was excited this year because he is usually hunting on his birthday and we don't get to spend it with him! I had been asking him for a week what he wanted to do for his birthday and got no reply, I decided that meant he just wanted to be home! So then I started to ask him what he wanted me to make for him for his birthday dinner and the answer I he gave for a few days was I don't know! So yesterday morning I asked him one last time with if you don't tell me we will have sloppy Joe's! The answer I got that time was then we will eat sloppy Joe's! I gave him one more chance, on my way to town I called him and asked again he said surprise me!! So all afternoon I slaved away at his favorite Chicken Cordon Blue with rice and a creamy mushroom gravy all made from scratch! I also made him his all time favorite cookies Pumpkin Chocolate Chip. After all my hard work in the kitchen we all sat down at the same time (that doesn't happen around here to often) as a family and enjoyed a great meal! What more could you ask for!

Greg, we love you so much and are so thankful for all you do for us!! You are my best friend and the love of my life and wouldn't know what I would do with out you![{Wink!}]

It's Cold Out There!!

We have broke out the heavy winter ware around here!! It has snowed each time we have gone out to do our chores......Brrrrr...... One thing about the cold weather it makes my want to bake and make projects. The Martha in me comes alive!! So around here we have had roasts for dinner and homemade soups and lost of Potatoes! (I'm going to gain my winter five pounds if I don't quit it!!) So the Martha in me started a Halloween throw quilt. My project was funded by the Granny Smith's Basement!!(up to our armpits in fabric ring a bell) It was fun to put together now all that is left to do is have it quilted!! I am happy to post that Kara is Feeling better and I made it to the school to eat lunch with Oakley! Thanks to our Super Dad he flew threw the door just in time for me to leave. He also supervised the plumbing problem in the basement!! He is the Best!{[Wink]} Here is a pic of Kara all wrapped up when she was sick! I love to watch my kids sleep, they are so peaceful and then they wake up!!

What more can happen!!

Last night as I was switching around the laundry so Greg could have dry pants for work this morning. I could here water running! I knew it wasn't the kids or Greg because the all were in bed. So I dug out my trusty old flash light and start my way in our crawl space that is on the other half of our basement. I hate going under there it is dirty and musty smelling and most of all the spiders live in there!(Now you know where Kara gets her fear of spiders from!) So this is what I found, we have a huge leak on the pipe that comes into the house from our well. I woke up Greg to get his professional plumber advice. This is the only thing we could do was to shut off the water to the house in hope to stop or slow down the leak...So Greg and I go get back in bed and are sleeping soundly when Kara wakes me up at 2:30 this morning with an upset stomach and a fever! It has been very tricky to clean up a sick kid with out any water! But I'm sure thankful for baby wipes!! As of now I have canceled all of my appointments at work, and we are waiting for the plumber to arrive!! I still have yet to figure out how to get to Oakley school to eat lunch with her for parents day!

Gettin' Crazy With Cousins

While the boys are away hunting the girls get together and work on projects at Grandma's house. This years project was to make aprons and a Halloween quilt, but turned into a clean and organize Grandma's fabric!! WOW was that a project!! Let me tell you about our Grandma Smith she is an amazing lady!! She can make anything! She loves to make all of the grand kids Halloween costumes! She has done costumes for dance teams, ice skaters, tumblers and every thing in between! This amazing Grandma has a huge collection of fabric including every color of Lycra from tie die to neon. That part was a good laugh! She also makes beautiful quilts so we had or work cut out for us! So while we were up to our armpits in piles of fabric and odd scraps, we kind of neglected the kids(notice that they are sitll in their pj's). They didn't seem to mind, they had Oakley to help them out in what ever they needed. Oakley became the errand runner and master entertainer of the little ones, she was a huge help to us! I can't believe that she is getting so old! Grandma has the best dress up box ever! Grandma has been compiling this wonderful collection for years. Every time the cousins get together that is the first thing they do! So I posted a few pictures of the girls form this weekend at grandma's. Kara was the singing chicken rider and Addie was the the dancing princess unicorn! And one of the big kill! Go Greg{[wink]}

What was I thinking!!

It has been raining all day and most of the night last night! Our yard is a mud hole right now! Greg and his brother have gone hunting Antelope so that leaves me home with the girls and all of the chores to do! I usually don't mind but this morning I was not the happiest Farm girl on the block (okay I am the only one that lives on my block!) As I am cursing the dang rain, and noisy cows I realized I was the one that said I would extend our summer project! WHAT WAS I THINKING!! So I will back up a little..... This summer Greg thought it would be fun for the girls and I to raise a few baby calves, "it will be some good bonding time for you girls!" said that dear farmer of mine!! Well here is a little calf raising info for you, so you can get a little feel of this project! Baby calves are on bottles for 6 weeks feeding them twice a day, then you feed them once a day for about two more weeks depending on how much grain they are eating. So we started our project with just 4 baby calves which was no problem, it was kind of fun. Well about 4 weeks into it, Greg decides we were doing such a good job he brings us home 9 more for us to start! Well needless to say I didn't talk to him for a few hours..... but when I did I told him WE as in Oakley and I were done with this project as soon as school started!! Well school has started and the summer is over and I'm still feeding baby calves!! I have to confess that the 3rd set that was only to be 12 calve which turned in to 14 calves, the 2 extra live in our dog kennels. Yes it is a site I keep telling Greg that we are starting to look like the Clampets! I'm going to start calling him Jethro! But I did agree to this last set of calves so I guess I need to buck up and quit my whining even if I do slip in the mud and have to climb into the the pig feeder because I can't reach to push the feed down! But what a site it was at the Funny Farm!!

Out of the mouth of Kara

Well today I have lost my voice!! But I think the girls don't mind at all... because I can't yell at them! I need to tell the funny thing that Kara said to me while we were hauling cows from Salina this afternoon for Greg.....here it is in the same words Kara used, "Mom, how did you loose yours voice?" I answered her with the usual I don't know sweet heart, but she goes on to ask "Mom, are you sick?" I told her yes I guess I am a little, "Mom, are you going to be dead?" No Kara I not going to be dead!" "Oh.......well you should go to mys doctor, but not the one with the shots! Whats thats ones name the one with all the shots?" I told her our doctors name and then she continues with " Yeah....don't go to that one!!" She such a funny girl all the time you never know what she will say!

Here We Go!!

Where to start...... I guess I will give you all the short and sweet version of the last 1o years of the Greg and Randie Smith story...... Greg and I married in December of 1997. We moved to Delta Utah the following June! We love it here! In October of 1999 our Oakley was born! And then in December of 2004 along came our Kara! Greg works in the cattle industry which keeps him extremely busy, and for me I have a small salon where I cut hair, I also teach aerobics, and sell modbe clothing!

So much has happened in between those 10 years it is amazing to think of what we started out as and what we have become!!

This picture is from when we went camping this summer!
